SEOUL, June 6 (Korea Bizwire) — Major convenience store chains are coming up with soju, a Korean distilled beverage made from grain, for a new round of competition this summer.
GS25 joined hands with Won Spirits Co., a liquor manufacturer led by singer Jay Park, to open up a pop-up store called ‘GS Won’.
Starting in July, GS25 will be selling Won Spirits’ newest ‘Won Soju Spirits’ at all GS25 stores nationwide.
Not to be outdone, 7-Eleven plans to release a new distilled soju line-up called ‘Soju Hanjan (A Glass of Soju)’ in July.
‘Soju Hanjan’ is produced in collaboration with a liquor manufacturer led by actor-singer Lim Chang-jung. The product is named after Lim’s hit song.
CU has yet to collaborate with a celebrity for a liquor business, but currently sells four kinds of premium soju.
