SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won posted about a food-tech startup in the U.S. on social media.
On his Instagram account, Chey said he visited Wildtype, a San Francisco-based startup that makes salmon from cultivated fish cells, during a business trip to the U.S.
Chey posted photos and videos of the company making sushi, rolls and salad with cell-cultivated salmon.
“It can drastically reduce carbon dioxide emitted throughout the process of fishing, fish-farming and transport, and protect the marine ecosystem that faces the risk of extinction,” Chey said.
Chey has regularly shown interest in alternative foods and spending a significant portion of his time in the U.S. to visit the company and try out the food indicates the possibility that SK may invest in the company.
SK Inc., the investment and holding company of SK Group, is currently bolstering investment in alternative food companies carrying core technology as part of its ESG investment strategy.
