SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom said on November 10 that it would showcase the “Smart Furniture,” the home fixture equipped with communications functionality. Developed jointly with Hyundai Livart, the Smart Furniture can provide a variety of information through the wireless or fixed-line Internet using the touchscreen-enabled mirror. The fixture can be installed in the kitchen or in the bedroom vanity. It can transmit video images through the smartphone mirroring service.
Hyundai Livart and SK Telecom have worked together for ten months since January this year to commercialize the Smart Furniture. The mobile telecom operator took the job of developing a service platform while Hyundai Livart engaging in designing the new furniture encompassing the IT functionality.
The furniture offers information services like media (radio stations, weather forecasting, and news search), lifestyle (food recipes, grocery prices, and timer), and family (board games and photo albums) as the default setting. The user can expand the service types by taking advantage of the mirroring technology. By connecting with the smartphone through Bluetooth, one can talk on the phone through the Smart Furniture screen.
The Smart Furniture will be used in conjunction with the home network system so that the family members can check the identity of a visitor, open and close the door, and control heating and air-conditioning, all through the fixture. Hyundai Livart will start selling the furniture from next month through construction contractors while offering the item as a standalone furniture piece in its “Livart Style Shop” across the country.
