SEOUL, April 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The market for robot vacuum cleaners, including high-end luxury products, is rapidly expanding in South Korea.
According to price-comparison service provider Connectwave Co., purchases of robot cleaners from online shopping malls increased by 23.7 percent during the first quarter of this year, a rise of 74 percent from a year ago.
The company attributed the market’s expansion to the introduction of new station features.
Connectwave reported that robot vacuum cleaners with auto-emptying features at dedicated stations accounted for 61 percent of the market share in the first quarter, up 20 percent from last year and 59 percent from two years ago.
Robot cleaners with mopping features comprised 26 percent of the market share, up 22 percent from last year.
The popularity of high-end products has driven up the average purchase price for robot cleaners in the first quarter of this year to 645,000 won (US$482), an increase of 129,000 won from last year and 208,000 won from two years ago.
