GIMHAE, June 21 (Korea Bizwire) —Doyo Village, situated in the northernmost part of Gimhae City, Gyeongsangnam-do, derives its name from the abundant presence of doyo birds that used to visit and inhabit the area alongside the river.
Nestled between Mount Mucheok and the Nakdong River, this riverside village exudes natural beauty and tranquility. Renowned as a slow city, it is also home to the Doyo Ecological Park, serving as an ecological sanctuary.
The village is particularly renowned for offering breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset over the Nakdong River. Moreover, the potatoes cultivated in the sandy soil near the Nakdong River, adjacent to the village, are highly regarded for their delectable taste.
Recently, Doyo Village announced the winners of its “Once in a Lifetime Moment in Doyo Healing” photo contest, which took place for three weeks in May.
The contest aimed to showcase the village’s stunning landscapes to the nation and revitalize its dwindling population, marking a unique endeavor for a rural town. Out of the 63 submitted photos, 10 were carefully selected to best capture the beauty of Doyo Village.
In addition to receiving local gift certificates corresponding to their rankings, the winners of the contest will be bestowed with a special gift—a canned potato each, as a token of appreciation from Doyo Village.
