SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung and LG are poised to introduce their all-in-one washer-dryer units to the South Korean market, sparking interest among consumers looking for innovative solutions in the home appliance sector.
This new product category, which eliminates the need to transfer laundry from a washing machine to a dryer, is expected to rejuvenate the stagnant appliance market.
Samsung’s “Bespoke AI Combo” has been the subject of a pre-purchase notification event on Samsung.com from today until February 22, indicating an imminent launch in South Korea and subsequent global release.
The Bespoke AI Combo, first unveiled at CES 2024 and well-received for its integrated washing and drying capabilities, allows users to complete their laundry process in one go. Compared to traditional stacked washer-dryers, it offers over 40% better space efficiency.
The product features a custom wash and dry course called “AI Custom,” which tailors the laundry process to the weight, fabric type, and dirt level of the clothes. It also includes a digital inverter heat pump, similar to the standalone “Bespoke AI Dryer,” ensuring high drying efficiency with minimal fabric damage and greater energy savings compared to conventional condensing dryers.
LG Electronics, on the other hand, plans to release the premium “LG Signature” model of its all-in-one washer-dryer next month in South Korea. First showcased at IFA 2023, the LG Signature washer-dryer combines a large-capacity drum washer with an inverter heat pump dryer, allowing for both washing and drying in a single unit.
The machine boasts a washing capacity of 25kg and a drying capacity of 13kg, utilizing a low-temperature dehumidification drying method that efficiently extracts moisture from the laundry.
Following the Signature model, LG intends to introduce a standard model optimized for the Korean market and environment.
The company has already experienced success in North America with the launch of its all-in-one washer-dryer “WashCombo,” which saw a 70% higher sales volume in its first week compared to LG’s premium drum washers and maintained a 50% higher sales volume throughout January.
The WashCombo completes both washing and drying within two hours for a 4.5kg load, thanks to a newly developed heat pump drying module exclusive to LG’s washer-dryers.
Ryu Jae-cheol, head of LG’s H&A Division, expressed high expectations for the WashCombo’s contribution to the company’s growth this year, noting its impressive sales performance even at a price point more than double that of conventional drum washers.
