SEOUL, Apr. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — The ardent aspirations of the Silla people for a Buddhist utopia and their magnificent golden artifacts have been vividly resurrected through captivating video installations at the Gyeongju National Museum.
The museum announced on April 15 that it is showcasing two video presentations, “Buddha-land made by Silla People” and “Koo Bohnchang’s Silla Gold Crowns,” on the media tower installed in the lobby of the Silla Art Museum.
The Silla Art Museum is a permanent exhibition space dedicated to introducing the art, culture, and history of the Silla Dynasty.
The museum has newly installed a massive 7.8-meter-high and 6-meter-wide LED media tower in the first-floor lobby, bringing to life the key exhibits that symbolize Silla culture through immersive video experiences.
The video depicting Buddha’s land envisioned by the Silla people features the National Treasure “Gilded Bronze Bhaisajyaguru Buddha Statue from Baengyulsa Temple in Gyeongju,” which represents the Buddha of medicine, believed to cure all illnesses.
Visitors can also witness the serene smiles of the main Maitreya Buddha figure seated on a pedestal, flanked by attendant bodhisattvas, captured in the treasure “Stone Maitreya Buddha Triad in Jangchanggok Valley, Namsan Mountain in Gyeongju.”
A museum official explained, “The media tower serves as a bridge, offering a comprehensive overview of the Buddhist sculpture and Buddhist temple exhibition rooms within the Silla Art Museum, heightening anticipation for the key Buddhist exhibits.”
Another video installation is a collaborative work with renowned photographer Koo Bohnchang, showcasing 13 iconic Silla cultural heritage pieces, including gold crowns and ornaments.
Through Koo’s captivating photographs brought to life in video form, viewers can immerse themselves in the “Golden Land” of the Silla Dynasty from 1,500 years ago.
These video installations can be enjoyed free of charge during the museum’s operating hours.
