SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Vertical gardens and a plant purification benches will be built at public housing complexes.
The Korea Land and Housing Corp. (LH) said Sunday that it will introduce vertical gardens for public housing by applying an “automated irrigation system” that can automatically water plants according to the temperature.
A vertical garden is one that grows vertically, in this case up the walls of a building, instead of horizontally.
These types of installations are often employed to improve the appearance of a building, reduce the urban heat island effect, and contribute to energy savings.
Furthermore, LH also plans to introduce plant purification benches on a trial base, a combined rest area of plants and benches, to help residents ease concerns over fine dust.
In addition to the natural purification effect of plants, plant purification benches that feature an automatic air purification system can produce air purification effects similar to a small forest with 105 trees.
