SUNCHEON, Feb. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — South Jeolla Province’s city of Suncheon plans to remove aged reeds to foster the growth of the reed habitat and prevent mud flat sedimentation.
The reeds in Suncheon Bay are cut between mid-February and March to allow new buds to sprout in April and grow to be a part of a beautiful reed landscape in autumn.
By removing aged reeds, the mudflats can gain enough space to breathe, and help preserve the diversity and the ecosystem in the area.
The city has been working with local residents to remove aged reeds on a regular basis.
Removed reeds will be recycled to build roofs for several facilities near the Suncheon wetlands and fences to protect the nests of hooded cranes.
