Climate Action Card Tops Seoul’s Most Popular Policies of 2024

SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire) – Seoul’s Climate Action Card emerged as citizens’ favorite municipal policy this year, garnering 69,821 votes or 12.49% of the total ballots cast in the city’s annual policy ranking, officials announced on December 15. 

The online poll, conducted from December 3 to 9, allowed residents to vote for up to three policies from a shortlist of 10 initiatives selected by the Seoul Press Corps. The survey drew participation from 186,388 citizens, who cast a total of 559,164 votes.

City officials expressed optimism about the Climate Action Card’s continued popularity, citing its expanding coverage area, increasing benefits, and the recent launch of a credit card version. 

The Wrist Doctor 9988 health initiative secured second place with 62,690 votes (11.21%), while the Seoul Outdoor Library project came in third with 60,129 votes (10.75%). Both programs were praised for their positive impact on citizens’ daily lives.

Several new initiatives made their debut in this year’s top 10 list, including the Seoul Birth Support Project (4th place), Pre-Home Ownership Program (6th), Garden City Seoul (7th), Seoul Basic Income (8th), Seoul Moon (9th), and Haechi and Soul Friends (10th).

In a separate poll conducted among foreign residents, the support program for isolated young adults topped the list with 3,346 votes (13.84%), followed by Garden City Seoul (3,147 votes, 13.01%) and Seoul Moon (2,984 votes, 12.34%).

The survey revealed distinct generational preferences: respondents in their teens and 20s favored the Seoul Outdoor Library (12.14%), those in their 30s to 50s preferred the Climate Action Card (12.75%), while citizens over 60 chose the Wrist Doctor 9988 program (12.94%).

Ma Chae-sook, Seoul’s public relations director, pledged to “continue developing diverse policies that both address citizens’ everyday needs and bring special moments to their daily lives in the coming year.”
