SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire) –  Seoul is introducing an innovative project to enhance urban aesthetics by turning construction barriers into art installations.

The “Attractive Fence” initiative, announced on December 22, will feature works by renowned illustrators displayed on construction site fences at long-term projects, such as in front of Aeogae Station Exit 1 and the Namsan Gondola Terminal at Yejang Park.

The project aims to address the visual disruption caused by prolonged construction in city centers by transforming functional barriers into everyday art pieces. These fences will remain in place for at least one to two years.

At Aeogae Station, a 100-meter-long barrier will showcase artwork by popular illustrator Subsub. The design incorporates the phrase “SEOUL MY SOUL” and the Korean consonants “ㅅㅇㅁㅇㅅㅇ,” symbolizing Seoul’s city slogan, “Companionable and Charming Seoul.”

The vibrant imagery represents unity and connection. Subsub, a celebrated artist with over 60,000 Instagram followers, is known for collaborations with brands like Dior and Chanel.

At Yejang Park, artwork by illustrators Glory and CUNA adorns the area around the future gondola terminal. Glory’s pieces, featuring scenes of Namsan Tower and citizens enjoying daily activities, are painted in a pink palette that complements the park’s atmosphere.

Glory, recognized as an emerging illustrator by the Seoul Design Festival, focuses on capturing joy in everyday life.

CUNA, known for her dreamy, whimsical style, created a mural showcasing Namsan Tower alongside landscapes of Myeongdong, Hanok Village, and Han River festivities. As Samsung’s official ambassador for the IOC, CUNA is celebrated for her enchanting illustrations of global landmarks.

The initiative also incorporates interactive elements. QR codes embedded within the artworks allow viewers to learn more about the artists and their portfolios.
