JEJU, Oct. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – A pile of pictures was burned at landfill near Ihotae beach in Jeju City.
The pictures were the work of photographer Kwon Chul, who captured images of Yasukuni shrine over the past 10 years.
The artist explained that he wanted to show Korean people who have little knowledge of the shrine the ‘true’ Yasukuni shrine, which echoes the militarism of Japan.
The first exhibition was held from September 26 to 28 at the Gandrak theater, and was continued at the Jeju City Hall.
The pieces exhibited were paraded with a Pungmul band (a Korean traditional percussion band) on the last day of the exhibition. The whole exhibition was closed with a performance that burned the pictures that were exhibited.
Kwon added that he intends to stage his exhibition and performance all over the nation.
