SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) is to lock-in two launch contracts with French launch services firm Arianespace on February 13.
The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) said that it has been developing, in collaboration with the KARI, two geo-stationary multi-purpose satellites used for monitoring weather and the Korean peninsula environment since 2011, and has invested 720 billion won (US$ 651 million) in the project.
Satellite 2A, the satellite to be used for weather monitoring, is to be launched in 2018, and is expected to provide clearer visual data with a longer span of observational cycles.
Satellite 2B, which will be used for environment monitoring, is to be launched in 2019, and is to contribute to a more thorough inspection of air contaminants in Korean airspace.
