SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — The animal rights group Korean Animal Welfare Association held a rally in front of the National Assembly Monday and called on the political community to pass legislation to fund shelters for bears raised by breeders.
The Korean Animal Welfare Association said its own investigation showed that bears typically lived on concrete floors without ever having the opportunity to step on soil, their soles were cracked, they subsisted on leftovers without normal meals or drinking water, and even showed symptoms of insanity due to extreme boredom and stress.
“The bears have suffered for long enough,” the association said.
“Society’s agreement on the construction of a bear shelter was reached a long time ago. The cost is also reasonable. We have to end the suffering of breeding bears.”
