SACHEON, Nov. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – Aramaru Aquarium in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do, is set to expand its facilities, positioning itself as the third-largest aquarium in South Korea by water tank capacity.

The expansion will increase the total tank volume from 4,300 tons to 5,300 tons, trailing only Jeju Hanwha Aquarium (10,300 tons) and Yeosu Hanwha Aquarium (6,300 tons).

Construction is slated to begin in mid-December, with the newly expanded facility expected to open by July 2024.

Since its opening in 2021, Aramaru Aquarium has become a cornerstone of Sacheon’s tourism industry, attracting approximately 360,000 visitors annually. It offers a unique experience, being the first aquarium in Korea designed to allow natural light on every floor. Its exhibits feature over 450 species, including rare animals like the shoebill stork, known as a “living dinosaur.”
