SEOUL, April 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Asiana Airlines Inc. South Korea’s second-biggest full-service carrier, said Thursday that it has signed a 10-year deal with Lufthansa Technik AG on component maintenance for its Boeing 777 fleet.
The deal covers nine aircraft in Asiana’s Boeing 777-200ER fleet and component repairs will take place at Lufthansa Technik’s workshops in Hamburg.
Kim E-Bae, executive vice president handling corporate support at Asiana Airlines, said the carrier has selected Lufthansa Technik as the strategic partner for its 777 components maintenance.
“We are convinced about Lufthansa Technik’s customer-aimed support, which already proved its value throughout our long-term partnership,” Kim said in comments posted on the website of Lufthansa Technik.
Gerald Steinhoff, Vice President Corporate Sales Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Technik, said this new agreement “further strengthens the long-standing, trustful cooperation between Asiana Airlines and us,” according to Lufthansa Technik.
Asiana Airlines and Lufthansa Technik, a wholly owned subsidiary of Germany’s Lufthansa AG, have been working together for more than 25 years.
Besides the latest deal, Lufthansa Technik said it provides integrated Total Component Support for Asiana’s Airbus A320, A330 and A350 fleets as well as V2500 and CF6 engine support and heavy maintenance for Asiana’s Airbus A380 superjumbo planes.
Lufthansa Technik also said it helps Asiana Airlines build up additional component repair capacities in Seoul, adding that the necessary exchanges of information and initial training courses have already begun.
