DAEJEON, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Tributes have been flowing in to honor the memory of Lucky, an explosives detection dog fondly known as “Ace,” who recently crossed the rainbow bridge.
As reported by the Daejeon National Police Agency on a recent Friday, Lucky was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony on September 25. Over 20 commandos paid their respects during the service. Adorned in a Korean flag, Lucky’s remains found their final resting place in front of the commando office, as fellow commandos offered a heartfelt salute.
Lucky boasted an illustrious career. In 2017, he clinched the third position in the National Explosive Detection Dog Competition. Furthermore, at the annual Police Commando Tactical Evaluation Competition, he consistently ranked among the top three in the Explosive Detection and Search Dog Operations category.
Over six years, Lucky valiantly completed over 200 missions, including high-profile events such as the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championships. He answered explosive calls and diligently searched for missing individuals.
But it’s not solely his professional achievements that make bidding farewell to Lucky so difficult. He was a beloved member of the police force, forging deep connections with his human companions. His infectious energy and unwavering loyalty endeared him to all officers.
Sergeant Lee Sang-kyu, Lucky’s devoted handler from the Daejeon Police Commandos, shared, “He was a constant source of unconditional love and trust, exceeding what I gave him. In the workplace, there are many challenges, but have you ever encountered a colleague who offers one-sided love, often more affectionate than a person?”
“He exuded such cheerfulness and vitality that he occasionally found himself in accidents,” he added, noting, “He never engaged in conflicts with fellow dogs and formed strong bonds with his teammates.”
