SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – Campgrounds in South Korea will from now on receive grades as hotels would, depending on their quality as too many campsites have sprouted up.
The Korea National Park Service announced that it would rate all campsites in Korea on a scale of 1 to 4. Infrastructure, safety, sanitation and environment will be considered major evaluation criteria.
The best campsites which are planned to get four stars are a total of 13 including Datdonjae in Mt. Worak, Deogyudae (high-end camp) in Mt. Deogyu and Namcheon in Mt. Sobaek, all of which provide full-furnished services. The national park service said that it would be perfect if the best sites are equipped with picnic tables, a free Wi-Fi service and hot water supply.
The number of three-star encampments is 15 in which more than 50 percent is green areas, providing convenient facilities and first aid treatment in emergency situations. Baemsagol and Naewon in Mt. Jiri, Hakdong in the Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park and Ga-in in Mr. Naejang are recommended to visit.
In two-star campgrounds, basic facilities including flush toilets, cookhouses and essential safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits must be prepared. A total of six encampments including Dalgung in Mt. Jiri, Seorakdong in Mt. Seorak and Deokyudae (regular camp) in Mt. Deokyu are the most ordinary two-star sites in Korea.
One-star campgrounds provide a minimum service to campers. Small areas for camping and toilets are all they have. Gyeongpodae in Mt. Wolchul, and Insu and Seokgul in Mt. Bukhan will offer the least convenience.
“The grading scheme is expected to help campers choose perfect campgrounds for their camping purposes,” said Choi Seung-un, manager of the park service.
