CHEONGJU, Mar. 26 (Korea Bizwire)The city of Cheongju has announced plans to actively promote the use of reusable containers at the upcoming “Food Truck Festival with Cherry Blossoms,” scheduled to commence on March 29. This initiative aims to minimize waste generation and foster a more sustainable event.

According to the city’s plan, the 35 participating food trucks will serve food and beverages in reusable containers. Visitors will then be able to return these containers to one of the approximately 10 designated collection points set up across the festival grounds. The collected reusable containers will undergo thorough cleaning, sanitization, and repackaging at a specialized facility before being redistributed for reuse at the event.

To accommodate those who wish to take their food home, disposable containers will also be available. Festival attendees will have the option to choose between reusable or disposable containers when purchasing from the food trucks.

A city official stated, “By encouraging the use of reusable containers, we aim to reduce the reliance on disposable products and ensure efficient waste separation and collection. Our goal is to establish this festival as a model for sustainable, waste-free events through resource circulation.”

Prior to this announcement, the Cheongju Chungbuk Environmental Movement Association had issued a statement calling for action, citing the excessive waste generated during last year’s food truck festival and the lack of proper waste separation and collection efforts. The association urged organizers to make this year’s event a “disposable-free festival” through the widespread adoption of reusable containers.

In addition to the food truck offerings, the festival, set to take place along Musimcheon Stream and the adjacent Musimseo-ro area, will feature a diverse array of accompanying events. These include a regional community flea market, jazz performances, busking shows, and an EDM DJ party, ensuring a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for attendees.
