SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Korea Bizwire)Smart key production is facing difficulties due to the global supply shortage for semiconductors used in cars.

Hyundai Motor Co. sold 515,142 units of the 5th-generation Grandeur HG sedan between 2011 and 2017 and it is still one of the most popular cars in the used car market.

However, its popularity means continuous production and supply of smart keys as part of after-sales equipment.

Due to a drop in production caused by the lack of semiconductors for cars, smart keys for older cars are also becoming increasingly scarce.

With smart keys running out of stock at most part shops in the country, Grandeur HG owners are facing difficulties acquiring additional smart keys.

Industry sources believe that the shortage of semiconductors will drag on until later this year, and anticipate further inconvenience for consumers due to delays in new car releases and part shortages.
