CHUNCHEON, May 28 (Korea Bizwire)A major company is planning to develop a government-licensed foreigner-only casino complex on a 4.84 million ㎡ site in Chuncheon and Hongcheon county, where the company is currently developing a resort complex, according to an announcement on May 27.

The company, whose name is unknown, will apply for one of the two licenses to be given to casino-resort development plans outside of Jeju by the Korean government before the end of the year.

At least 1 trillion won (US$ 901 million) should be invested in a casino-resort for the project to be licensed by the government, and the casino-resort should have more than 1,000 accommodation rooms and entertainment and cultural facilities of more than 20,000 ㎡.

The company has already developed an eighteen-hole golf course at the site in Chuncheon. It is planning to develop more golf courses, hotels and condos.

A Chuncheon city official said that the city government is trying to support the company’s plan to earn the license as increases in tax revenues and tourist numbers can be expected due to the casino.

There are currently three development plans for tour spots in Chuncheon: Uiamho Lake Park, a park at Samak Mountain, and Lego Land.
