SEOUL, Korea, April 25, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) – As anomalies in weather become more frequent, weather information has become a significant factor in business management in not only industries that are affected sensitively by the climate such as agriculture, fisheries and construction, but also in businesses such as logistics, food and tourism.
In the meantime, there is much attention towards the companies which took advantage of “Weather Management Certificate” scheme and have successfully capitalized on weather information in their businesses.
The scheme was implemented in 2011 by the National Weather Agency, which issues the certificates to the organizations that have successfully utilized weather information in their management, and have improved the level of safety from climatic disasters. The certified organizations will receive customized weather management consulting, and various training opportunities.
Black Yak, an outdoor gear company, which implemented a system to analyze the number of visitors in its stores and consumer preferences based on weather conditions, was one of the organizations.
Cheonan-Nonsan Expressway in the center of the nation also capitalized on the meteorological information by providing real-time weather information on its electronic board to promote safe-driving. The economic effect from the reduced number of car accidents is calculated to be up to 3.2 billion won.
The Weather Management Certificate has been granted to a total of 72 companies and organizations until the end of last year, and this year’s applications are due on May 30.
