Daegu To Use IoT for Water Supply Management

SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire) – Daegu Metropolitan City is set to become the first municipality in South Korea to adopt IoT technology for the management of a local water supply system, which will make visits from a meter reader no longer necessary, the municipal government announced yesterday.

The municipal government is expected to invest 3.5 billion won into revamping the water supply system in the district of Dalseong by June, affecting nearly 3.700 households living in the area.

Daegu’s new project to use inter-networking technology that connects physical devices and buildings over the internet is expected to bring more convenience, transparency and swiftness in dealing with use of public supply water in many aspects.

Swifter measures are expected to be taken when problems such as water leaks occur thanks to a live monitoring system and the use of IoT technology.

Residents will also be able to check their water usage and pay bills through a mobile app.

The latest addition to the water system in Daegu will take place in collaboration with Daegu Technopark, the Mobile Convergence Technology Center, and the Daegu Waterworks Headquarters.

Gwon Yeong-jin, the mayor of Daegu, said, “This is the very first service in the country to use an IoT network. As a new business model, we’ll also support overseas expansion of the companies involved in the project.”
