SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Consumers are buying more home exercise equipment as the coronavirus continues to force them to stay at home.
Online shopping giant 11st reported that sales of exercise steppers, a piece of equipment that simulates the effect of climbing stairs, jumped by 475 percent in the period from September 1 to 14 compared to last year.
Compared to the first two weeks of August, before the second onslaught of the coronavirus, sales have jumped by 267 percent.
Sales of treadmills for running or walking jumped by 103 and 41 percent, respectively.
Sales of running or walking shoes, on the contrary, dropped by 29 percent and 20 percent respectively, compared to the previous month.
Local researcher Opensurvey conducted a survey of 1,000 men and women between 20 and 59 years of age, 32.6 percent of whom increasingly focused on weight control following the coronavirus outbreak.
