Demand for Used Sports and Water Play Items Up Sharply After Lifting of Social Distancing Rules

SEOUL, July 27 (Korea Bizwire)With COVID-19 social distancing restrictions in the rearview mirror, transactions of used sports and water play items increased sharply in South Korea.

Online secondhand marketplace Bungaejangter analyzed the change in the number of transactions in its sports and leisure categories for three months before and after the lifting of social distancing rules.

The analysis showed that transactions of these items increased by 19.3 percent during the period from April 18 to July 17 compared to the previous three months.

During this period, transactions of used tennis items jumped by 50.1 percent, while transactions of cycling and golf items rose by 27.5 percent and 13.7 percent, respectively.

In the tennis category, tennis rackets and shoes accounted for a large part of the search results. In the cycling category, fixed-gear bicycles ranked first in terms of the number of search results.

In the water sports category, the number of transactions increased by 68.6 percent compared to the previous three months. In particular, transactions of swimming suits and water play items jumped by 78.9 percent and 71.6 percent, respectively.

Swimming tubes, aqua shoes, swimming fins and snorkeling masks enjoyed strong popularity.

“An increasing number of consumers are opening their wallets to partake in offline leisure activities,” an official at Bungaejangter said.
