SEOUL, May 11 (Korea Bizwire) — With so-called “untact” culture spreading in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, drive-through and drive-in services to limit personal contact and limit the spread of the virus are growing in popularity.
Following the digital transformation of academic societies and exhibition events around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic, academic symposiums in the form of “drive-ins” have emerged in South Korea.
GlaxoSmithKline Plc. (GSK), a multinational pharmaceutical company, will hold a drive-in symposium at Jamsil Drive-in Theater on May 21 to share the latest trends in respiratory diseases with Korean medical staff.
GSK explained that it came up with the idea of a drive-in symposium to minimize contact between people at the height of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Medical staff members who have expressed their intention to attend in advance can visit the venue in their personal vehicles and listen to lectures from the comfort of their own car.
Attendees can adjust the radio frequency in the car as if they were watching a movie at a drive-in theater. Presentation materials will be displayed on the screen on the stage.
At the symposium, details on respiratory diseases such as asthma and whooping cough, including “misunderstanding and truth of chronic cough,” will be presented.
Meanwhile, the introduction of the “drive-in” method of the redevelopment and reconstruction unions is also spreading.
A committee for the development of the Shindonga apartment complex in Seocho District, Seoul, held an temporary general meeting Sunday at a vacant lot in Incheon, the port city west of Seoul.
Members of the union took part in the general assembly from the safety of their cars, and a separate venue was set up for those who could not come by car.
In the vote that followed after the agenda was put forward, personnel wearing masks went car to car to collect ballots.
A total of 138 members, including 135 who came to the scene after submitting a written resolution, attended the temporary general meeting. The remaining 419 took part in the general assembly in a written resolution manner.
Previously, the reconstruction union of Gaepo Jugong apartment complex in Gangnam District held a drive-in general meeting for the first time as an urban readjustment project site at an empty lot in the complex on April 28.
