SEOUL, April 1 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean scientists are accelerating efforts to develop a visualization and machine learning technology-based platform aimed at greatly shortening the new material development period.

A research team from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology said Wednesday that it had developed a platform that employs artificial intelligence (AI) technology to reverse design materials, thus enabling the exploration of new materials.

The research team developed the reverse design methodology M313 platform that enables researchers to identify the process of how the material is created using the material’s inherent properties.

The platform is based on the principle of identifying the original structure of the material, including the position and arrangement of atoms on the basis of the material’s properties such as lightness and heaviness, and then recreating the same structure through reverse processing.

To check the validity of the platform, the research team looked into the development history and results of existing new battery materials through the M313 methodology.

The research team extracted new material-related data from academic papers published over the past 20 years and established and analyzed the machine learning model.

The model accuracy was a 90 percent match with the existing materials, indicating that it would become possible to develop outstanding new materials through M313.
