Elementary Schools in Gangwon Province Hold Unique Entrance Ceremonies as Student Numbers Dwindle

CHUNCHEON, Feb. 25 (Korea Bizwire)With the start to the school year just around the corner, elementary schools in Gangwon Province plan to hold unique entrance ceremonies.

At Sodal Elementary School in Samcheok, an entrance ceremony will be held for a single student.

Teachers, seniors and local residents will decorate a tree with various gifts, which will be delivered to the student at the ceremony.

Geumbyeong Elementary School in Chuncheon will hold a candlelight ceremony to celebrate the new semester. Teachers, parents, and seniors will surround the new students to welcome them.

The school dean will read children’s books and recite the names of 25 new students, after which second graders will share their school life experience with the new students and provide them with gifts of school supplies.

Seosang Elementary School in Chuncheon will hold a rice cake cutting ceremony.

Sixth graders, each holding hands with a new student, will enter the ceremony. Second graders will give welcoming speeches and welcome the new students with songs and fun activities.

There were 15 schools in Gangwon Province that had no new enrollments this year.
