Energy Drinks Gaining Popularity Among S. Koreans in Their 40s and Older

SEOUL, May 12 (Korea Bizwire)Consumers in their 40s or older are growing a stronger presence in the energy drink market.

The the state-run Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. (aT) reported on Monday that South Korea’s energy drink market reached a volume of 15.6 million liters last year, growing by an average of 6 percent every year since 2015.

Roughly two thirds of all energy drinks were sold at convenience stores, followed by supermarkets (23.5 percent) and large retailers (7.8 percent).

aT reported that more people searched for energy drinks online between April and June, and less between November and February.

While teens and those in their 20s showed less interest towards energy drinks, interest among people in their 40s or older grew significantly.

More people are talking about energy drinks on social networks as well, telling others that they drink them before exercise for an energy boost, aT said.
