SEOUL, July 31 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s Everland has once again proven its horticultural prowess on the international stage, with its homegrown rose variety “Pink Pastry” winning both a Bronze Medal and a Special Fragrance Award at the 23rd International Rose Competition held in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
According to Samsung C&T Resort Group on Thursday, Pink Pastry earned high marks across nine judging categories—including fragrance, disease resistance, blooming continuity, and plant vigor—to take home the bronze. It also received the coveted “Rose Hill Award,” presented to the most fragrant rose in the contest. The official awards ceremony will be held this October at the World Rose Garden in Gifu.
The competition, certified by the World Federation of Rose Societies, is one of the world’s most respected rose contests. Leading rose breeders such as the UK’s David Austin, France’s Delbard, and Germany’s Kordes are regular participants. This year’s event evaluated about 50 rose varieties from around the globe over a rigorous two-year judging process.
Developed by Everland after five years of research beginning in 2014, Pink Pastry features over 100 delicately layered petals and a unique sweet-yet-cool fragrance. Its name was inspired by its resemblance to a delicate pastry dessert.
Everland has emerged as a consistent contender in global rose competitions. Since 2021, four of its rose varieties—including “Garden Everscape,” “Perfume Everscape,” “Carnival Everscape,” and now “Pink Pastry”—have won a combined nine awards across multiple categories.
Notably, Perfume Everscape recently entered the Japanese market, becoming the first Korean-developed garden rose to be commercially exported.
Ha Ho-soo, the rose breeder behind Everland’s program, said, “We’re honored that Everland roses continue to earn global recognition. We’ll keep working to showcase the excellence of K-roses to the world.”
Since 2013, Everland has conducted over 20,000 artificial pollination experiments to develop 40 unique rose varieties. Visitors can experience the full bloom of Pink Pastry and other Everland roses this fall at the resort’s Rose Garden.
