SEOUL, April 10 (Korea Bizwire) – A training institute that specializes in unmanned aerial vehicles has opened in Gangwon Province’s Yeongwol County.

The county office of Yeongwol and the Korean Aero Models Association took part in the opening ceremony of the institute held last Saturday, featuring a series of events including drone shows and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

South Korean drone manufacturer VORA showcased its Shotgun drone racing model, which boasts a maximum flying speed of 150 km/h while the TT-950, a special-purpose model that was built using an integrated control platform also made an appearance.

Last month, the Korean Aero Models Association and ASEA UAV Training Center were jointly appointed to become an official training institution for drone pilots by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, with plans to train 12 drone pilots every month after three weeks of training in and outside the training center.

County governor Park Sun-gyu said he expects the opening of the drone training institute will boost support for a new drone flying site in Yeongwol County.

“With many trainees visiting Yeongwol, (the new drone training institute) will invigorate the local market and help spread the word about the great environment for drone training in the area,” Park said.
