SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Environment announced on Tuesday that it had added four new species into the list of invasive alien species.
The newly-added species are snapping turtle, Florida red-belly turtle, anoplolepis gracilipes, and melanoplus differentialis.
The invasive alien species refer to species that could cause great harm to local ecosystems and are designated by the Minister of Environment. Including the newly-added ones, the list of invasive alien species consists of 33 species and one genus.
Once designated as invasive alien species, they cannot be imported, bred, cultivated, transferred, stored, transported or distributed.
If illegal behaviors are observed, imprisonment of less than two years or a fine of less than 20 million won (US$18,340) can be imposed as a penalty.
