SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Genesis, the independent luxury brand of Hyundai Motor Co., has completed the development of ‘Face Connect,’ a new technology that uses facial recognition to open or lock vehicles and automatically cater to the driver’s needs.
The cutting-edge technology, which will appear first on the Genesis’ GV60 SUV, recognizes the driver’s face to open or lock a vehicle, and automatically adjust the driver’s seat, steering wheel, heads-up display and side mirrors for a comfortable driving experience.
The facial recognition technology uses a near-infrared (NIR) camera, which allows faces to be recognized even at night or during bad weather.
Face Connect also incorporates a deep-learning technology to accurately decide if the face has been pre-registered to the system or not.
Since it allows drivers to leave their smart keys in the car or not have them at all thanks to the facial recognition system, Face Connect helps drivers to freely engage in various outdoor activities.
Syncing with GV60’s fingerprint authorization system will allow the driver to scan his/her face to open or lock the car and scan his/her fingerprints to start the engine.
The facial data registered to Face Connect will be encrypted to prevent the risk of being leaked. Drivers can delete all facial data anytime they want, Genesis said.
