SEOUL, May 5 (Korea Bizwire) — The government has launched a drive to promote working from home among local businesses as part of preparations for another virus wave.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on Wednesday held a meeting with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and was briefed about the latter’s plan to promote working from home.
Under this plan, the government will provide free workplace-customized consulting service for 12 weeks as part of efforts to promote the adoption of work-from-home programs.
To establish working from home as a normal practice, the government will provide a variety of support on various fronts, among others, the diagnosis of job descriptions, the establishment of HR management systems, the application of IT infrastructure and participation in government support programs.
In addition, when businesses purchase programs and equipment needed to promote working from home, the government will provide financial support of up to 20 million won (US$15,790) to offset the infrastructure establishment expenses.
The type of infrastructure that is eligible for financial support, however, excludes communication equipment such as PCs and notebook computers and the cost to purchase or rent buildings or land.
When businesses spend more on HR and labor management to promote working from home, the government also plans to extend financial support of up to 3.6 million won for one year depending on the frequency of work-from-home programs.
