SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s telecom authority said Wednesday it plans to allow foreign visitors to the country to open a mobile phone account more quickly.
Starting Thursday, foreigners will be permitted to get a mobile phone number at airports by submitting only their passports, the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning said.
Currently, foreign visitors have to wait for at least a day for their immigration records to be verified to register a new number.
“Information on foreign visitors is registered automatically upon arrival in South Korea, so they will be able to open their local mobile accounts more quickly,” the ministry said.’
