SEOUL, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) — GS25, a South Korean convenience store chain, said Thursday it had decided to donate the leftover inventory of closed stores to Good Will Store, a vocational rehabilitation facility for handicapped people run by the Miral Welfare Foundation.
Thus far, it has disposed of such products by sending them to a logistics center.
GS25 said that it decided to donate the inventory so that it could be used more effectively, as well as to address problems arising during the process of disposal, including the cost of product recovery, storage and processing.
When GS25 outlets terminate operations, Good Will Store will collect the leftover inventory and sell it through its outlets across the country.
The proceeds from the sales will be used to cover the salaries of disabled employees.
Good Will Store provides jobs to the disabled on the basis of the proceeds created by selling inventory and clothes donated by businesses and households. At present, about 280 disabled employees work at 14 outlets across the country.
