UIJEONGBU, May 28 (Korea Bizwire) — The government of Gyeonggi Province is set to launch an on-site technology demonstration to introduce a ‘non-contact transit bus fare payment system’ that can minimize passengers’ risk of COVID-19 infection and prevent safety accidents on buses.
In collaboration with local mobility firm LOCA Mobility Corp., the provincial government will carry out the technology demonstration of the ‘non-contact bus fare payment and mobile disembark bell service’ during the period from June 1 to July 31.
The service enables automatic embarking and disembarking processing and payment without the need to touch a card to the transportation card terminal.
To use this service, a ‘tagless pay’ app must be installed on a smartphone and a prepaid or deferred payment-type traffic card registered.
A beacon installed on the bus can receive Bluetooth signals transmitted from passengers’ phones to discern whether they get on or get off.
When transferring to subways or other buses, users can still enjoy the transfer discount if they turn on their smartphone screen and tag it at a card terminal.
When users push the mobile disembark bell button in the app before actually getting off the bus, an alarm is displayed to bus drivers, letting them know that there is a passenger who wants to get off.
