Half of Hyundai IONIQ 5 Buyers are Older than 50

SEOUL, Aug. 2 (Korea Bizwire)Half of Hyundai Motor Co.’s IONIQ 5 all-electric car buyers are in their 50s or older, indicating that the customer base is similar to that of its existing vehicles with internal combustion engines.

The company analyzed the customer data for 5,700 units of the Ioniq 5 that had been sold as of June.

The analysis showed that more than half of the buyers – 51.7 percent – were in their 50s or older. The share of male customers was high at 75 percent.

Hyundai’s analysis suggested that customers who are accustomed to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles selected the IONIQ 5 without feeling a burden, resulting in a similar customer composition to that of conventional vehicles.

By region, the Seoul metropolitan area and the Yeongnam region of southeastern South Korea accounted for 32.8 percent and 28.4 percent of the total number of buyers, respectively, indicating that demand is high particularly in regions with stable electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The number of charging stations installed in the two areas stood at 29,000 and 19,000, respectively.

Among individual optional items, “vehicle-to-load” feature which enables the electricity from the battery to be used by external devices ranked on top in terms of popularity at 31.7 percent.
