SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire) — The country’s first joint branch shared by two different banks has opened in Gyeonggi Province.
Hana Bank and Woori Bank announced that their joint branch began operation in Suji District, Yongin on Monday, the first of its kind in the banking industry.
The two banks’ separate branches that used to operate in the district have closed down in September and December last year, respectively.
They soon came up with the idea of opening up a joint branch to minimize operating costs while continuing to offer services to local seniors who aren’t used to mobile or online banking services.
The two banks will each use half of the old Woori Bank branch, each of which will be staffed by two employees, who will be in charge of assisting senior customers’ transactions, electronic finance and tax payments.
