SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — As the country enters the age of the so-called ‘New Normal,’ the keyword that represents current trends in the home appliances market is ‘customization’.
New series of home appliances come with design choices such as color, patterns, and material, that can be tailored to match the tastes of various consumers.
This year, LG Electronics Inc. introduced LG Object Collection, which offers a special line-up of stackable washers and dryers, stylers and other home appliances.
LG joined hands with the Pantone Color Institute, a renowned American research institution for color, to select colors most popular among customers.
Gen Xers and baby boomers had a tendency to prefer green and silver, while millennials preferred beige and pink.
BESPOKE by Samsung Electronics Co., a customizable refrigerator lineup that allows consumers to select the color and material of the door panel, had a successful launch last year.
Samsung’s domestic refrigerator sales in the first two quarters this year jumped by 30 percent compared to the previous year. Experts believe that BESPOKE was primarily responsible for the sales jump.
There are concerns, however, that excessive emphasis on design may come at the expense of a product’s durability, functions and other capabilities.
