SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s leading auto parts maker, said Wednesday it has developed a glove box for electric vehicles (EVs), which will be featured in Kia Corp.’s all-electric EV9 flagship SUV.
Inspired by the structure of aircraft cabin storage compartments, the parabolic motion glove box offers a higher storage capacity and improves user convenience by reducing knee interference.
The development of this new glove box by Hyundai Mobis was driven by the recognition that EVs, unlike internal combustion engine vehicles, do not have an engine room, thereby providing more space for passengers.
By implementing the parabolic motion method, the glove box’s storage capacity increased from 5.5 L to over 8 L.
Moreover, it has been designed to facilitate the process of putting in and taking out items, while also minimizing knee interference.
