INCHEON, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – The city of Incheon is taking a significant step towards fostering a mature pet culture by completing the installation of a Smart Pet Waste Management System in 11 parks, including Mujugol Park, with a total of 13 devices comprising waste bag dispensers and collection bins.
The innovative system, accessible through the Puppoop app, offers a range of services including free bi-weekly waste bag distribution (with a nominal fee for additional bags), unlimited use of waste collection bins, and features for tracking walks and waste disposal, ensuring a pleasant and convenient experience for pet owners in parks.
This initiative aims to heighten pet owners’ sense of responsibility and reduce conflicts between pet owners and non-pet owners, promoting harmonious coexistence in Incheon. The project, supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, led to the development of the app and waste management infrastructure.
Following a successful pilot run in Wolmi Park and Sinteuri Park in Bupyeong District last November, the system was expanded this year. Feedback from the trial, including issues with app registration and the inconvenience of carrying waste bags, has been addressed with enhancements such as a promotional period for free services and a temporary waiver for pet registration during sign-up.
The city of Incheon is committed to continuously refining the system based on user feedback and sharing updates through blogs, YouTube, and social media platforms.
Choi Do-su, who heads Incheon’s Urban Balance Bureau, expressed hope that the smart waste management system would resolve conflicts and provide a more pleasant environment in parks, reaffirming the city’s dedication to creating convenient urban spaces that meet the expectations of its residents.
