Insulation Sheets Regain Popularity as Heating Costs Spike

SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Korea Bizwire)With the soaring cost of heating amid the start of winter, insulation sheets are gaining popularity.

Major online shopping mall Gmarket analyzed the demand for heating products that are used to reduce heating costs in the winter between Oct. 12 and Nov. 13, which showed that demand surpassed the level reported last year by a large margin.

The Korea District Heating Corp., a state-run heating operator, reported a 40 percent spike in the cost of heating, going from 66.98 won last April to 74.49 won in July and 89.88 won per 1 megacalorie (Mcal) last month.

The increase in the cost of heating is bringing back the popularity of heating insulation sheets, heat tents, and other products that help to reduce the cost of heating.

Sales of heat insulation sheets jumped by 80 percent from last year.

Sales of other insulation products like insulating film (96 percent), tents (93 percent), weather strips (80 percent) and windscreens (64 percent) have also increased.

With the onset of cold weather, sales of underclothes and home appliances for the winter have also increased.

Sales of undergarments jumped by 71 percent, with demand for thermal underwear up 141 percent.

Sales of heating devices jumped by 78 percent, among which sales of boilers and stoves jumped by 61 percent and 57 percent, respectively.

Sales of heated footpads and hand pads jumped by 98 percent and 70 percent.
