Japanese Right-wing Extremists Bash Sex Slave Documentary Director Online

SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Korea Bizwire)Japanese right-wing extremists were seen insulting and threatening the director of a documentary film about the life and testimony of Lee Yong-soo, a 93-year-old victim of the Japanese military’s sexual slavery during World War II.

Last week, Britain’s Channel 4 aired the Japanese Wartime Sex Slave episode for “Unreported World,” a documentary series in which Lee gave testimony about her experience as a sex slave, talked about her recent activities and criticized efforts to distort facts about sex slaves.

After the show, a group of Japanese right-wing extremists called netouyo active online, bashed director Nancy Roberts on her Twitter account, which she soon deactivated.

“Netouyo is notorious for its malicious activities for harassing individuals responsible for telling the truth about sex slaves in the western hemisphere,” said Kim Hyun-jung, executive director of Comfort Women Action for Redress & Education (CARE), a civic group active in California.

Despite the threats, Channel 4 and the Oxford University Institute for Digital Archaeology plan to hold exclusive documentary screenings and a seminar at Oxford University jointly with CARE on Dec. 6.
