SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Jeju Air, a South Korean low-cost carrier (LCC), will expand its fleet size to 32 planes by December with the aim of serving 10 million passengers annually, the company said Monday.
On Sunday, the 29th plane ordered by the Jeju Island-based budget carrier arrived at Gimpo International Airport. The single-aisle B737-800 airliner can seat 189 passengers, Jeju Air said in a statement.
The new plane will be put on the Japan and Southeast Asian routes within this month. The company plans to provide services to some 50 destinations in South Korea and around Asia next year, the company said.
Jeju Air is 63.35 percent owned by cosmetics conglomerate Aekyung Group, with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province holding a 7.65-percent stake in the airline.
The company currently runs 40 routes to Japan, China, Southeast Asian countries and major cities in South Korea.
