SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) – Park Yoo-chun of the boy band JYJ is in “panic mode” over snowballing allegations that he raped a woman, possibly more, his talent agency said Friday.
The scandal made headlines after a woman in her 20s pressed charges against Park for rape. The charges were dropped earlier this week after the woman admitted their sex was consensual. Another supposed victim, however, came forward shortly thereafter, dealing another blow to Park’s already teetering reputation.
In a statement Friday, C-JeS Entertainment apologized for the scandal and said Park is “extremely shocked” by the crisis that could cost him his career. The singer said he would retire if any of the allegations are proved true.
The 30-year-old is currently working at Gangnam-gu Office in southern Seoul to substitute for his mandatory military service of about two years.
Sources close to Park say the singer has now exhausted all his vacation days for this year, which he used to avoid having to confront reporters who have camped out in front of the district office.
“It must be hard for him to be asked those questions on his way to work every morning,” a source close to him said. “I heard he’s cried a lot and is emotionally exhausted. Basically, he is in panic mode.”
