SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — A new cab-hailing service will allow pets to ride with their owners.
Kakao Mobility Corp., the country’s leading taxi-hailing firm, began accepting driver applications for KakaoT Pet, a new service for pets and their owners launching in March.
Each cab will provide safety fences, pet-exclusive car seats and other pet-related equipment. For driver safety, the service will introduce group insurance for pet transportation as well as pet accident insurance.
Unlike ordinary cab services, KakaoT Pet is classified as an animal transportation service. Drivers will be registered as animal transportation workers, accommodating pets and their owners in their own cars.
Despite a number of similar businesses that have been established following the introduction of the newly amended Animal Protection Act in 2017, the pet taxi industry has lagged in terms of growth due to unstable demand.
