SEOUL, April 4 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s leading mobile messenger app KakaoTalk experienced a temporary disruption Friday, just moments after the Constitutional Court announced its decision to uphold the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol.

A large number of users encountered delays in sending and receiving messages around 11:22 a.m. when the court delivered its final verdict relieving Yoon of his duties.

Yoon was impeached by the opposition-controlled National Assembly in mid-December on charges of violating the Constitution and laws by declaring martial law on Dec. 3, deploying troops to the National Assembly to stop lawmakers from voting down the decree and ordering the arrest of politicians.

“A temporary delay in message delivery occurred for some users due to a sudden surge in traffic, but the issue has since been resolved through emergency measures,” a Kakao Corp. spokesperson said.

Kakao reportedly secured traffic capacity three to 10 times higher than usual in anticipation of a potential spike following the court ruling.
