Seoul, Korea, August 12 (Korea Bizwire) – Making profit is a tricky problem for free-of-charge app developers. App users just hate seeing ads on their free apps. Some users plead for add-free versions and say they are willing to pay for it.
Then do they really pay for it when they have other free apps providing desired service? According to results of a survey conducted by Flurry, a mobile analytics platform, 90 percent of apps that users actually used were free in 2013. Thus price of tolerating in-app advertisements is not that really great compared to using free apps. The free app market is still and will be a dominating force.
However, the rate of user participation to in-app advertising is less than 1 percent in Korea. About 99 percent of free app users simply ignore advertisements. Now Marketing, Korea’s mobile marketing company, has developed a new marketing model that can increase the participation rates. Named ‘Apptto,’ this model is similar to an event banner, in the form of simple win-or-lose lottery, only without annoying messages asking for signing up and personal information. The model reduces the sense of resistance to ads among users because its pure simplicity is helping greatly users participate in winning the prize just for fun.
‘Apptto’ has already drawn 5 to 7 percent of participation rates from its pilot version. Choi Hyunchul, CEO of Now Marketing, said Apptto will be a proven model to earn more from advertising. Apptto can be run in parallel with existing ads so companies don’t need to worry about arranging in-app ads. Apptto will also provide more convenience for developers by weekly updating sales accounts.
