SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) – A French cooking school will offer courses in Korean cuisine and open its branch in South Korea later this year, a local foundation said Sunday.
The Mir Foundation said Ecole Ferrandi will include Korean cuisine, known as “hansik,” as part of their regular school curriculum and establish its branch in South Korea at the end of this year.
It is the first time in the French cooking school’s centurial history that a foreign cuisine will be included as part of their official curriculum, according to the foundation.
The school, which will accept some 100 students in March 2017, aims to train talented individuals with comprehensive knowledge on both Korean and French cuisine.
At the school, students can enroll for either a nine-month regular course or three-month short course and learn diverse subjects ranging from cooking to humanities and arts, said the foundation, which will co-manage the school.
The foundation said those who graduate from the Ferrandi-Mir school will have opportunities for internship programs linked to renowned French restaurants.
“Through an active cooperation with Ecole Ferrandi, we will try our best to train global chefs with hansik DNA,” Kim Hyung-soo, chief of the foundation, said.
The foundation was established in October with donations from 16 local companies to boost hallyu, or the global following of Korean culture, in food, fashion, interior design and traditional culture.
